Colony Bay Coal Company receives special award
from National Wild Turkey Federation

The Colony Bay surface coal mine in Boone County, West Virginia, has been presented with two prestigious reclamation awards.

The company was presented with a special reclamation award. Sponsored by the West Virginia Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Wildlife West Virginia Award was presented to the company for outstanding achievement in the enhancement of wildlife habitat, particularly for wild turkey.

In addition, Colony Bay was presented an award from the West Virginia Coal Association and the West Virginia Department of Environment for the efficient use of overburden and topsoil in their successful reclamation program. These efforts involved backfilling 2,200 linear feet of 90-foot highwall, as well as the innovative use of discharge flumes and sediment cells for drainage control.
